Astrological Interpretation
How to read a birth chart step by step
The Reading Method
Interpreting a birth chart is a process of synthesis. It is not about reading isolated signs, but about combining planets, signs, houses and aspects to build a coherent picture of the person and their life cycles.
1. The Core Trinity
Begin with the Sun (essence and conscious identity), the Moon (emotional world and inner needs) and the Ascendant (how you present yourself to others). These three points summarise roughly 70% of the reading.
2. Distribution
Count the planets by element (fire, earth, air, water) and by modality (cardinal, fixed, mutable). A sign or element containing many planets indicates a strong thematic emphasis in the personality.
3. Major Aspects
Identify conjunctions, oppositions and squares (tensions and challenges); then trines and sextiles (natural talents). Tension aspects describe the friction that drives growth; harmonious aspects show where energy flows freely.
4. Loaded Houses
Houses containing several planets signal priority areas of life. An empty house is not an absence — it simply means that area is not a primary axis in this lifetime. Focus where the planets are gathered.
5. Configurations
Special patterns — the grand trine, T-square, grand cross, yod, kite — mark structural dynamics in the chart. Identifying them gives insight into the overall "shape" of the person's challenges and gifts.
6. Synthesis
Weave everything into a single narrative: who is this person, what are they seeking, what costs them energy, where do they shine. The chart does not predict — it describes the conditions of departure and the possibilities available.
